MCAT "508 to 521 in 3 weeks" and Other Lies You Can Read on Reddit

Have you ever seen the following online?

“Yah my score was sitting in the 500’s then I did (insert some random flashcard, deck, study method, or weird trick) and then I took some AAMC practice exams and got in the 520s!! And I also did it in an unspecified yet suspiciously short amount of time!!!”

Despite the “truthfulness” of the internet at MCATSavior we actually believe that cases like this are 100% accurate and not only do they happen in real life but can happen in this identical fashion.

It just probably won’t happen to you or 90% of everyone taking the MCAT.

The first thing students should remember is that ANYONE scoring 513~ and above is already in the top 10 percent of ALL test takers out there.

Through some combination of their hard work, innate talent,

or natural intelligence. They have achieved what 90% of

others cannot.

We have seen students score 524 a month after studying. We have also seen others get 518 without an actual study plan(please never do this, you can just get a free study plan course here). There are so many “get rich quick magic method” study plans out there but this is the problem with being an average student.

Naturally Intelligent students can achieve success with “questionable” methods

but we CANT!!

Average students are average for a reason. Especially in standardized testing situations where small differences in test taking capability can have huge differences in scaled score outcomes.

When we see others achieving stratospheric success with simple methods we feel very hopeful. Not because we are lazy and don't want to work.

Average students are disproportionately drawn to these “magic methods”

BECAUSE we have been working so hard doing absolutely

EVERYTHING we can to increase our scores

Because of how much blood, sweat and tears we put in for “average” results we often think that if we just make “one tiny change” we can unlock all the potential we have been building up.

There is plenty of great educational material on the internet and lots of wonderful people ready to help you. We also believe that while these “magic methods” are valid, that is only for a very small group of people that have the innate “talent/intelligence” to make it work for them and these methods will not give the average student the same results.

MCATSavior was built by “average” students who had to claw our way up to get in the 97th percentile so that journey really shaped how we built our educational material. After working with thousands of students we want other “average” students looking to climb up to the 90th percentile to consider the following key points.

  1. Have a strong study plan. C/P, B/B and P/S are content based sections. No

matter how good your strategy is, without sufficient content knowledge your

score will never climb.

Most 90th percentile scorers learn material differently from average students.

Which is why they can unlock massive score gains with “minimal effort”

very quickly. We can compete we just need an effective study plan

  1. Do not neglect CARS. CARS is known to be impossible to study for but that's not true.

There are four key foundations to growth in CARS that are incredibly important.

Please refer to all the great free CARS material we have to discover what you might

need to keep improving in a systematic fashion.

Most 90th percentile scorers either are “innately” good at CARS or have scores so

high in the other three sections that it does not matter.

  1. Don’t ignore the power of strategy. In C/P, B/B and P/S 80% of your scoring potential

Comes from your content knowledge. The remainder is your application of strategy

to read passages, answer questions and manage time.

  1. Don’t forget that you aren’t writing the MCAT for fun(Unless you work for MCATSavior)

Most students are writing the MCAT to get accepted into medical school. Your MCAT

is a massive task but it's just one part of your application. (For example, what score do you actually need to get into med school?) Make sure you don't forget about the rest of your application.

We have free courses on personal statement writing and medical school admissions

so hopefully those can guide you in the right direction.

People online can make everything seem easy but if you are an average student we want you to know you are not alone. The vast majority of us out here are “just average” yet just like the founders of MCATSavior we found a way to compete with the 90th percentile scorers to achieve our goals and we want to help others do the same.
